A large color painting reproducing Raphael’s Madonna della Seggiola dominates the walls, and we chose it to represent the emblem and symbol of the “Children’s Houses.” In fact, the “Children’s Houses” represent not only social progress, but also the progress of humanity; they are closely linked to maternal elevation, the advancement of women, and the protection of posterity. The Madonna conceived by the divine Raphael is not only beautiful and sweet as a sublime Virgin and mother with her adorable Child; but next to such a perfect symbol of living and real motherhood stands the figure of John the Baptist, who presents us with the harsh sacrifices of those who prepare for life in the fresh beauty of a child. It is the work of the greatest Italian artist, and if one day the “Children’s Houses” were to spread throughout the world, Raphael’s painting would speak eloquently of their homeland of origin.

The little children will not be able to understand the symbolic meaning of the Madonna della Seggiola, but they will see something greater in it than in other paintings depicting mothers, fathers, grandparents, and children, and they will wrap it in their hearts in a religious feeling and aspiration.
